Frequently Asked Questions:

What kind of dogs do you have? We specialize in rescuing bully breeds because they are the ones most threatened right now. On any given day we might have American Bulldogs, Olde English Bulldogs, Staffordshire Terriers, American Pit Bull Terriers, Bull Terriers, AmStaffs, and others.

Where do the dogs come from? Most of our puppies come from animal shelters in Florida and surrounding states. Often we get an entire litter at a time, and we rescue expectant mothers as often as we can. Most of our adult dogs are "owner surrenders" - cherished pets who are suddenly homeless due to a family death, divorce, or moving day. Increasingly we are seeing greater restrictions on dog ownership within communities and even entire counties; lots of deserving dogs need a safe, loving home.

How much does it cost to adopt from Mike's Dog House? Adoption fees can vary, but in most cases the cost is around $200. Since our dogs are fully vetted, owners save money on the medical costs normally associated with bringing home a new dog. And although the adoption fee doesn’t cover all of our costs, it helps to offset some of them and allows us to keep doing what we do best: matching great dogs with great people everywhere.

Can anyone adopt from you? No, unfortunately. We wish everyone who contacted us would be a good potential owner, but not everyone is; it often depends on their circumstances at the time. In general, we do not adopt out to anyone under the age of 21, or who owns cats or other small animals, or who rents his or her home (except can be made). We cautiously adopt out to homes that have other dogs or children under the age of five, but this is on a case by case basis. We NEVER adopt out to people planning to breed more dogs.

Not all of our dogs are listed on the website! We update it as often as we can but for the latest info, we encourage you to give us a call at (386) 328-7789.
